Biography

Peter Koury is a performer and woodwind educator based in Cincinnati, OH, where he is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Saxophone Performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with Dr. James Bunte and serves as a Graduate Assistant of the Music Education department. He received his Bachelor’s in Saxophone Performance also at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in the Spring of 2021, where he studied with both Dr. James Bunte and Dr. Om Srivastava.

Peter serves to bring saxophone pedagogy through private and chamber instruction to all, amplifying the reach of the saxophone through all spheres of concert music and education. As an educator, Peter has extensive teaching experience throughout Central Kentucky and Ohio with students from William Mason High School, Madison Central High School, Lafayette High School, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Bourbon County High School, George Rogers Clark High School, and Clark Moores Middle School. He is an active chamber coach as well, having founded and coached numerous chamber ensembles around the Central Kentucky area. He founded the Madison Central Saxophone Ensemble which most recently was invited to perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference, as well as serving currently as the director of the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble’s Saxophone Ensemble. Peter also has a passion for saxophone quartet, most recently coaching the Divum Saxophone Quartet in their preparation to perform at the quarterfinals of the Fischoff National Chamber Competition. He is also on the faculty for the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp in Richmond, Kentucky, where he teaches masterclasses, private lessons, and coaches chamber ensembles for students grades 6-12.

Peter is also an active performer, taking part in workshops and masterclasses for the critically acclaimed Timothy McAllister, Taimur Sullivan, Doug O’ Connor, Diane Hunger, and more. Peter seeks to perform all styles of music, ranging from contemporary compositions and premieres to transcriptions of Romantic and Baroque era music. As a co-director of the Cincinnati New Music Ensemble, a burgeoning new music ensemble, Peter actively works with composers from the greater Cincinnati area and has commissioned and premiered works for solo saxophone, saxophone quartet, and mixed chamber ensemble from composers Saman Shahi, Serin Oh, Owen Hopper, and James Loughery. This included most recently premiering Owen Hopper’s How to be Dishonest for saxophone and fixed media, as well as performing the works of Louis Andriessen, Gregory Wanamaker, Stacey Bowers, Eden Lonsdale, Isaac Creager, and more.
